Purulia Central Co-Operative Bank Ltd. popularly known as PCCB, is a cooperative banking network established in 1947 in Purulia District of West Bengal to serve cooperatives and rural areas. It was established to provide banking to rural hinterland for agriculture sector with the branches primarily established at rural and semi-urban areas of Purulia District.
In furtherance to the development of the co-operative movement in the district, the need for establishment of separate machinery for the distribution of finance in the rural areas was felt vigorously hence the district central co-op,banks came into existence as a Central Finance Agency to meet the financial requirement of the various co-operative in the district. The Bank has taken active participation in promoting and financing the Self Help Groups.
Purulia Central Cooperative Banks have been functioning under the supervision of NABARD and regulatory control of Reserve Bank of India for banking related functions in terms of the powers vested under Banking Regulation Act, 1949 (As applicable to Cooperative Societies) and the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. This bank comes under the purview of the Government of West Bengal by virtue of the provisions of The West Bengal Co-operative Societies Act, 2006 and The West Bengal Co-operative Rules, 2011.
